Richard L. Pitre, age 84, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, Oct 15th, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He leaves behind his loving wife of 64 years, Mary "Rose" Lavergne Pitre of Church Point, LA. Richard and Mary adopted two beautiful children, Melissa Pitre Reynolds (Paul) and Scott Pitre (Lorraine). Richard was a true Louisiana Cajun, born to the late Littel and Octavia (Berzas) Pitre of Mamou, LA.
He was the brother to Carlos Pitre and the late Floyd Pitre. Richard was the loving grandfather to 9 adoring grandchildren: Jacob Reynolds (Amber), Jessica McElwee (Taylor), Jade Magliolo (Mark), Caleb Reynolds (Leah), Olivia Pitre, Paden Pitre, Savanna Matthews (Dylan), Shelby Deynzer, and Kaylee Deynzer; along with 9 great grandchildren that was his pride and joy: Asa and Ezra Reynolds, Jonah Reynolds and Tristan McElwee, Halle and Mason Magliolo, Levi and Lainey Reynolds, and Holland Matthews.
In his earlier years he spent his spare time working on farms with his beloved uncle. Tractors, gardening and farm animals became very fond memories of Richard’s, which eventually became a lifelong hobby he often looked forward to.
As a young adult Richard acquired a love for cars and trucks, as he pursued his dreams by learning the trade and skills of auto-body painting. After many years in the auto-body industry, Richard proudly made a name for himself in the industry of auto-body repairing.
After marrying Mary, he moved his family to Watson, Louisiana in 1976 where he spent some of the most glorious days. He retired from Exxon Resin Plant in 2003 after a long and prosperous career. Richard was rarely idle, between working a full-time job, working in his yard, rebuilding cars, camping with his family, riding motorcycles and three-wheelers, while still making time to host cookouts with his family and friends. Being Richard was a great cook; he was always happy to be by “his grill” cooking. He also carried a quick wit and had a list of funny sayings that his family still uses. He enjoyed giving people nicknames that usually became their new name.
The 84 years spent on this side of Heaven Richard made sure he lived his life to the fullest, making sure his days were full and rewarding. You could rest assure as long as Richard was traveling, cooking, and spending time with family, he carried a smile that was contagious.
Richard will be greatly missed by so many. His life is a testimony to the hard work of men who love their families and keep the promises of God close to their heart in quiet strength. The Family would like to thank Bridgeway Hospice for their professional and compassionate care not only to Richard but to the entire family.
Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service to be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd. Baton Rouge, LA 70815 on Monday, October 20th, 2025, at 1:00 PM. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park.
