

Robert James Hyde, a native of Altus, Oklahoma and long-time resident of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 21, 2017, at the age of ninety. Bob was proud to serve in the U.S. Navy in World War II and played football for Cameron University in Oklahoma. He is a self-proclaimed “doodlebugger” retiring from Amoco after 37 years of service and working another nine for GFS, Eastern Geophysical, and SEI in Seismic operations. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was revered by all as a man of humility, integrity, and faith. His humor, warmth and amazing storytelling will be missed by many. He is reunited in death with his loving wife Pauline Bowlin Hyde, his parents: Lillie Ruth and James Madison, and seven siblings: Rufus Hyde, Ruth Gilbreth, Ethel Poole, Ralph Hyde, Bruce Hyde, Inez Conn, and Jo Chapman. Bob was the youngest. He is survived by two sons, daughter-in-laws and five grandchildren who absolutely adored him: His oldest son, Steven Todd and wife, Tammy, and their children Brady James and Ashley Nicole of Lafayette, and Thomas Michael and wife, Shannon and their three children, Tyler Elizabeth, Thomas Michael II, and Lily Ruth of Baton Rouge. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation which will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Monday, January 23rd from 12 pm until funeral services begin at 2 pm. A burial will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. The family appreciates the loving care and attention provided by the staff at Acadian Hospice and Maison de Lafayette where Bob resided for the past several months.
