He was a retired barber, a native of Ville Platte and a resident of Baton Rouge for 64 years. Rodney died at 4:30am, Wednesday, May 02, 2012, at OLOL. He was 90 and a U. S. Navy veteran of WW II. Visitation will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church Friday from 12:30pm until the Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00pm, conducted by the Rev. Vic Messina. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. He is survived by his wife: Mary Ann Cali Ortego; his two daughters: Charlotte Ortego Teepell, Linda Ortego Dimattia&husband Vince; his son: Daniel Lee Ortego&wife P. J.; his three sisters: Verna, Lena Mae and Joy; seven grandchildren: Courtney Teepell Downing&husband A. J., Kristin Teepell Bergeron&husband Sean, Andrea Dimattia Cothern&husband Chad, Corey Dimattia&wife Allison, Troy, John and Michael Ortego; nine great-grandchildren; Mary Ann's family: daughter: Tricia Jarratt&husband Dan; sonin- law: Jimmy Meyer&wife Janet; grandchildren: Brandt, Landon and Cali Meyer, and Mary-Danse Jarratt. Rodney was preceded in death by his first wife of 55 years: Tavie Ortego; his parents, seven brothers and sisters. He was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church since 1955 and served in numerous ministries of the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center of Baton Rouge or Restoration Pregnancy Resource Center of Hammond.
