A memorial Service will be held Saturday April 9 in the Broadmoor United Methodist Church Sanctuary at 10230 Mollylea Drive, Baton Rouge, LA 70815. Visitation will begin at 9AM; the Memorial Service begins at 11AM to be followed by a reception in the Adult Education Building.
Roger was born on June 8, 1929 in Toledo, Ohio. He grew up In East Cleveland, Ohio, attended public schools and graduated from Shaw High School in 1947.
Roger attended Purdue University and graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering in 1951. While at Purdue Roger learned to fly retired Army training gliders when he joined the glider club which was formed as WWII soldiers returned to school.
Roger joined Ethyl Corporation, moved to Baton Rouge, and met his future wife Marcia Guissinger in 1951. Roger married Marcia on October 4, 1952 at University Methodist on the LSU campus. They had a wonderful 69-year marriage.
Roger and Marcia moved to New Jersey where Roger served from 1953 to 1955 in the US Army Signal Corps., Andrea was born there. When Roger was released from the Army they returned to Baton Rouge to resume working for Ethyl Corp. They were soon transferred to Houston where Ken was born. They were transferred back to Baton Rouge where Philip was born. Roger and Marcia lived in Baton Rouge continuously thereafter. Roger spent his career in research and development and business group management, mostly related to new chemical product development and commercialization. Roger attended management training programs at LSU and later an Executive Management program at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He retired in 1993, in later years at Ethyl having been Senior Vice President first of the Research and Development Department and then of some of the Business Operating Divisions.
Roger was recognized as a Distinguished Engineering Alumnus by Purdue University in 1983.
When the original Baton Rouge Horizon Plan activity was initiated under a contract with a planning consulting firm in 1989, Roger was co-chair of the community-member Steering Committee which worked with that firm. When the plan was adopted by the Metropolitan Council in 1992 he was appointed to the Implementation Committee to work with the Planning Commission to help put the plan into effect.
Roger was active in community service throughout most of his life. Roger served on the boards of Baton Rouge Teach for America, Baton Rouge Health Centers in Schools, Governor Blanco’s Blue-Ribbon Commission for Education Excellence, Governor Roemer’s Transition Advisory Panel on Elementary and Secondary Education, Board Chairman of the Greater Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce, and Board Chairman of the Istrouma Area Council Boy Scouts of America which awarded him the Silver Beaver.
Roger was recruited to run for the EBRP School Board In 1994. He was elected and served three terms (12 years) beginning in 1995. Roger was president or vice-president of the Board for the first ten of those years, and during that time a final settlement agreement was reached in Federal Court to bring to conclusion a long-standing desegregation law suit.
Professionally Roger served on the Boards of the Soap and Detergent Association, the Chemical Manufacturers Association, and First Mississippi Chemical. For twenty years in sequence Roger served on the boards of Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, then Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, then the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System.
Roger and Marcia were active members of Broadmoor United Methodist Church beginning in 1958 where Roger held most if not all lay leadership positions including Chairman of the Administrative Board and he was a member of the Chancel Choir for many years. Roger was a lifelong learner and a vociferous reader. Roger loved life and he loved to travel. He and Marcia travelled to most States and 60 countries on 6 continents.
Roger was preceded in death by wife Marcia Ann Guissinger Moser, parents Karl Simon Moser and Dorothy Katherine Moser, and by his sister Margaret Louise Moser. Survivors include: his 3 children and their spouses, Andrea Moser Clark and Donald of Garden Valley, TX, Kenneth Moser and Karen of Lake Charles, LA, and Philip Moser and Laura of Baton Rouge; his 13 grandchildren and spouses, Arie Clark Gort and Benjamin, Kira Clark Filip and Nicholas, Eric Moser and Jordan, Mikaela Clark Brown and Joshua, Ryan Moser and Alora, Leah Clark Slavens and Nathaneul, Martin Moser and Emily, Kyle Moser and Luisa Venegoni, Joshua Clark and Illyanna, Hunter Moser, Daniel Clark and Claire , Bethany Clark, and Heath Moser; Roger is also survived by his 12 great grandchildren (and counting), Zion, Micah, Jeremiah, Gabriel, Levi, Elise, Oliver, Avonlea, Elowyn , Alden, Jude, and Corinne.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to Broadmoor United Methodist Church or the Our Lady of the Lake Foundation.
