Ruth Guarino Lessing, born on August 3, 1934, passed away on Monday, October 25, 2021 in Baton Rouge, LA. She was 87 years old. Ruth was a native of Baton Rouge and the daughter of Thomas and Mary Guarino. She was predeceased by her first husband Benedict F. Lessing, and her second husband Gary Boudreaux, and her three brothers Joseph, Dominic, and Augustine Guarino.
Ruth is survived by her children Benedict F. Lessing, Jr. (Lenette) of Rhode Island, Kristi (Bob) McClelland of Virginia, Jeffrey (Lorna) Lessing, and Michael Lessing of Baton Rouge. She is also survived by her step daughters Georgina Boudreaux (John) of Baton Rouge, and Linette Boudreaux Ahn (John) of California; and her six grandchildren, Ethan, Robert (Sarah), Rachel, Madeline, Gabby and Ella. In addition she has many nieces and nephews in Baton Rouge and other parts of the country.
Ruth was an active member of her Catholic community from a very young age. She graduated from St. Anthony Catholic High School in 1952. In recent years she was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. Ruth could often be seen in many church roles. Ruth loved her Faith and for many years encouraged others to grow spiritually. A most cherished time for Ruth and her husband, Ben, was their involvement in Cursillo during their time in Wheeling, WV.
Her happiest and most precious moments were spent with family and friends. Ruth loved her children and often traveled to be able to spend time with them. Ruth was a joyful and loving soul who loved others deeply and selflessly. She had a wonderful gift of listening, and made all of those who knew her feel loved and special.
Ruth's family would like to extend a special thank you to the nursing assistants and nurses at Flannery Oaks Guest House for their nurturing care of Ruth. In addition we would like to thank the nurses and chaplains of Lifesource Hospice for Ruth's care in her last months.
Services are to be held at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, Baton Rouge, LA on Saturday, October 30, 2021. The family will receive family and friends at the church beginning at 12:30pm. The Mass of burial will be at 1:30pm. Ruth will be interred at Greenoaks Memorial Park following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family would ask for donations to be sent to the Society of St. Vincent De Paul Baton Rouge.
