Ruth Hilton Svoren

A resident of Central, she died at her home surrounded by all of her family on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008. She was 87, born March 4, 1921, in Mitchell. She was a registered nurse who worked private duty for many years and then later retired from the East Baton Rouge Parish Health Unit. She was a longtime member of Zoar Baptist Church. Visitation at Zoar Baptist Church, 11848 Hooper Road, on Sunday, Nov. 9, from 12:30 p.m. until religious service at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Dr. Kevin Hand, the Rev. Glen Miers and the Rev. J.T. Halley. Interment in Zoar Baptist Church Cemetery. She received her RN degree from Mathers School of Nursing, Baptist Hospital, New Orleans. Preceded in death by her husband, Stephen M. Svoren; parents, Hattie Harper Hilton and Wiley Harrison Hilton; and brother, Ferman Daniel Hilton. She is survived by three sisters and a brother-in-law, Anne Wade, Kenner, Aline Autrey, Pensacola, Fla., and Ruby and J.T. Halley, Baker. She has four children, two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Julia Svoren, Houston, and Jerry and Darilyn Svoren, Central; and two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Ray Jowers, Gulf Breeze, Fla., and Shirley and Kenneth Browning, Central. MaMa has seven grandchildren and their spouses, David and Jean Svoren, Overland Park, Kan., Debbie and Matt Brown, Houston, Scott and Jayna Stikeleather, Navarre, Fla., Donna and AI Diaz, Houston, Dustin and Jenni Browning, Central, Madeline Svoren and Raymond Svoren, Central. She has 11 great-grandchildren, Michael, Jim and Megan Svoren, Overland, Kan., Blake and Stephanie Brown, Houston, Alexis, Ashlyn and Addison Stikeleather, Navarre, Fla., Alexander, William and Jackson Browning, Central. Aunt Ruthie also had numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be David Svoren, Scott Stikeleather, Dustin Browning, Ray Jowers, Reggie Alford, David Carpenter and Raymond Svoren. Honorary pallbearers are Kenneth Browning and Gary Carpenter. Memorial donations may be made to Zoar Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or Louisiana Baptist Children's Home in Monroe.
