Newman Sr., a native of Centreville, Miss., and resident of Baton Rouge, passed away Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011. Mr. Newman was 80 and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Wednesday, Jan. 5, from 9 a.m. until funeral services in the chapel at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Don Williams. Burial will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Survived by his wife of 57 years, Hazel "Dugan" DeMent Newman; three sons and daughters-in-law, Marvin and Ruth Newman, Charles D. and Jocelyne Newman, and James "Jay" and Molly Newman; three granddaughters, three grandsons, and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded by his parents and two sisters. Mr. Newman was a member of Hosanna First Assembly of God.
