
He was a loving father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and godfather. He was a good friend and a kind and honorable man. He went into God's loving arms at his home surrounded by his loving family at 9:17 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, at age 93. He retired from Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center after 33 years of dedicated service. He was a veteran of World War II who served his beloved country in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy. He is survived by three daughters, Arlene Wyatt, Baton Rouge, Charmaine Neptune and husband John, Denham Springs, and Janell Gautreaux, Baton Rouge; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ouida Davis and Lucille Altazan; and brother, Herman Gautreaux Sr. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Velma L. Gautreaux; his parents, a brother and two sisters. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. We would like to thank Janet Deaton for her loving and devoted care. Thanks to his devoted physicians for their care and compassion. He was a charter member of St. Louis King of France Catholic Church, a past senior counselor for UCT Council 499 and a member of the American Legion, the USS New Orleans Reunion Association and Land Invasion Occupation Navy 4 Reunion Association. Shelton's priorities in life were God, family and country. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Monday, Feb. 9, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Louis King of France Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Jack Nutter, celebrant. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Richard Gautreaux, Steve Keel, Will Kleinpeter, Jeremy Neptune, Darren Wyatt and Devin Wyatt. Honorary pallbearers are Jake Bollinger, John Hartley, Willie James, Ralph Jackson and Gerard Monte.
