

"A native of Logtown, Miss., raised in Slidell, La., and longtime resident of Baton Rouge, Shirley Ray Dean Cuevas passed away on November 16, 2017, at the age of 86. She was a lifelong homemaker, gifted seamstress, artist, art instructor with the Baton Rouge Council on Aging, and held a broker license with Cuevas Real Estate. She was a 1948 graduate of Slidell High School and earned her Associate of Arts Degree in 1950 from Perkinston Junior College, Perkinston, Miss., where she was in the Drama Club and on the basketball team. She was a kind, creative, and gentle soul. She is survived by her daughter Sheree Annette Cuevas Daniel of Baton Rouge; sons, Rev. Randy Michael Cuevas of Baton Rouge, and Leslie James (Shelby Lovett) Cuevas of Phoeniz, Ariz. She is also survived by granddaughters, Kimberly Claire Daniel and Piper Kate Daniel, both of Baton Rouge; grandson Gray James Cuevas, of Phoenix, Ariz; sisters Lillian Henrietta Welborn, Picayune, Miss., Carlotta Noel Johnson, Pearl River, La.; brothers James Quitman Dean and Henry D. Dean Jr., both of Slidell, La.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by husband of 66 years, Sidney A. Cuevas; her parents, Henry D. Dean Sr. and Lillian Pittman Dean; sisters, Mamie Alibess Crawford, Ida Angeline Lowe, Yvonne Delois Evans; and brothers, William Hardy Dean and Larry Avadell Dean, all of Slidell, La. The family expresses deep gratitude to her loving and devoted caregivers, Shannon Arnand and Ruby Ferreras. Visitation at Rabenhorst East Funeral Home, 11000 Florida, Boulevard, Baton Rouge, on Tuesday, November 21, 2017, 6 to 8 PM, and at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2025 Stuart Ave., Baton Rouge, on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, from 10 AM until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM conducted by Rev. Randy M. Cuevas. Interment to follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park Mausoleum, 9607 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge.
