Shirley Ann Daspit Vicknair

Shirley Vicknair was born April 23, 1935, in Baton Rouge, and died at 8:07 a.m.Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007, at Our Lady of The Lake Regional Medical Center. She was vice president and co-owner of Viking Distributors Inc., a member of the Art League, Woman's Club and member and past president of Baton Rouge Eye Bank Auxiliary. She is survived by her husband, Nestor J. Vicknair Jr.; five children, Melanie Johnson and husband Neal, Diane Norton, Rhett Vicknair, Galen Vicknair and wife Leslie, and Nestor Vicknair III and wife Kim; 10 grandchildren, Megan and Rachel Johnson, Ashley Enlow, Adam Norton, Daniel Vicknair, Elissa, Alec and Carly Vicknair and Morgan and Cole Vicknair; three sisters, Dorothy Boyd, LeEarle Griffith and Judy McCants; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Ida Giroir Daspit; and a brother, Kenneth J. Daspit. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Wednesday, Jan. 31, was from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. Visiting resumes at the funeral home on Thursday from 8 a.m. to 9:40 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 12424 Brogdon Lane, at 10 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Jerry Martin, celebrant. Entombment in Greenoaks Mausoleum with Neal Johnson, Harvey Berman, Rob Woosley, Brent Boyd, Stephen McCants and Richard Daspit serving as pallbearers.
