

If my parting has left a void, fill it with remembered joy. Celebrating the long and full life of our father Slavin Paul “Bud” Broussard Jr. born in New Iberia April 17,l917 and passed away June 29, 2016 Survived by his loving and long- time companion Norma Mitchell. They shared a deep christian faith, belonged to several church and social organizations . Dad graduated from Loyola University in New Orleans l939, until his death, he was the oldest living graduate. He worked his way through school by selling vacuum cleaners and working as a soda jerk in a drug store. After graduation he began his accounting career with the Federal Government in Shreveport, La. Our family was then rooted in Baton Rouge to continue his career in accounting with Ethyl Corp. There he was in charge of the Audit Section of the Finance Dept., and was one of the first to receive the certification of Certified Internal Auditor . He traveled to many of the companies' foreign plants and retired in 1982 after 36 years of service. He saw many changes in his lifetime! In the 50's he dismissed the use of computers in the work place with their big boxes, large reels and punch cards, and declared this could never take the place of men. In his early days, he had a part- time CPA business with two other associates Hannamon and Kadair. Dad was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4030, and received several merit awards along with the Supreme Knight Award in 1976. He was the treasurer of the Mother of Mercy Council building committee from 1968 thru 1977. Dad donated his time to the building committee fund of Catholic High School and St. Thomas Moore Church. He was always ready to assist groups with “checking their books,” He was an avid golfer and gave proof that you can love something without being proficient at it. Dad celebrated each LSU win. He loved watching wrestling on TV, the game shows and crossword puzzles. He was always ready for a card game and to tell a Boudreaux and Thibodeaux joke. He loved Gulf Shores, swimming and just sitting on the beach. Preceded in death by his parents Slavin (T Man) and Cecile Jewell Broussard, sister Elaine and brother Gordan. His baby sister Jewell Dulin, age 97, resides in New Iberia. Also preceded in death our loving mother Ada Mae Navarre Broussard after 52 yeard of marriage. Dad was happiest at holidays when surrounded by his large family; daughter Barbara Jean (Jeanie) and husband C.W.(Chick) Streat, son Slavin Paul (Bruce) and wife Peggy, daughter Billy Sue (Suzy) and husband John Thibodeaux, daughter Adalene Elizabeth (Bettye) and husband Phil Baldwin, son Arthur James (Jim) and wife Dee, son Norbert Henry (Bert) and wife Patsy. Known to the younger generation as DeGamp he has 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. He has several nieces and nephews. His grandsons will be pallbearers We would like to thank St. Joseph Hospice, the Carpenter House, nurse Denisha Williams, sitters Trell Woodside, and Ashleigh Ray. Visitation will be Saturday, July 9 at St Thomas More Catholic Church on Goodwood Blvd. from 10:30 followed by mass at 12:00. Internment at Greenoaks.
