A lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, Thomas "Tommy" Benton Darensbourg, Jr. passed away on June 22, 2025, at his home. Born on March 25, 1957, he was the first-born of Thomas B., Sr. and Dolores Decuir Darensbourg.
Tommy never let his deafness stand in his way of success. After graduating as valedictorian in 1976 from Cathedral Preparatory High School, he earned a bachelor's degree in 1980 from the School of Journalism at Louisiana State University. While at LSU, Tommy was a National Dean's List student and received the Louisiana Vocational Rehabilitation Scholarship. He was a news writer for The Daily Reveille, a member of Phi Eta Sigma Honors Society, and student editor for the Publications Bureau at the LSU Office of Public Relations.
After graduating, Tommy served as the Public Relations Director at Our Lady of the Lake RMC. He later became the Director of Communications and Education at the Louisiana Municipal Association. Upon his retirement, he became a Real Estate Advisor at Keller Williams Realty-Red Stick Partners, and later at KDK Realty. In 2018, Tommy began working with Jerry Del Rio Real Estate, Inc.
Tommy was an active and faithful member of St. Joseph Cathedral, where he served as a lector and assisted in several ministries of the Parish. He often assisted the office staff with planning and publicizing events. He was a Fourth Degree Knight of the KC Council 13632. He was also an active member of the Red Stick Kiwanis Club and the Inter-Civic Council of Greater Baton Rouge, where he served as president in 2024.
An avid LSU Tiger and New Orleans Saints fan, Tommy's Facebook posts left no doubt what his thoughts were on the teams' performance. In fact, his very last post celebrated the LSU baseball team's victory in game one of the CWS. His honest, to the point, and often hysterical commentary will surely be missed.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents; paternal grandparents, George and Olivia Darensbourg, Sr.; maternal grandparents, Mark and Gussie Decuir, Sr.; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by his siblings, Celeste (Eric) Roquemore, Alyson Darensbourg, and Lyndon (Tina) Darensbourg. He is also survived by his nieces, Kaitlyn (Goddaughter) and Lyndsey Darensbourg, nephew, Christopher Darensbourg, his best friend of many years, Roger French, and a host of cousins and friends.
A visitation for Tommy will be held on Thursday, July 3, at St. Joseph's Cathedral (401 Main Street, Baton Rouge) at 8:30 am until Mass at 10. Inurnment will immediately follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
