He is preceded in death by his parents, Velvin Grady and Margaret Rose Cooper, his twin sister Vivian Echavaria and his older sister Peggy Irvin. Originally from Arizona, lived much of his life in Las Vegas, NV and moved to Louisiana in 1995. A devout Catholic Christian, his faith was paramount to his life. He lived simply, and always looked beyond the material things of the world. He always believed it is far better to be rich in faith, family and friends than with finances.
He grew up in Douglas, Arizona and after high school enlisted in the U.S Air Force. While stationed in Alaska worked as a teletype operator, which he loved. After his military service he worked as a firefighter, first responder, radio dispatcher for law enforcement, head of security for the hotel and aviation industries in Las Vegas, and later as a truck driver. During his later years he was an avid artist, painter and writer. His clever creativity always reflected his strong Catholic faith.
He is survived by two children and their spouses: son Michael Sean and Kimberly Ann Cooper; daughter Theresa Michelle and Paul ‘Bubba’ Kennedy, and eight grandchildren: Michael Paul, Sean Velvin, Serena Paige, Marion Lee, Juliet Laree, Jude Michael, Liam Joseph and Alastair Blake.
Services are scheduled for Tuesday, June 16 at 2:00pm at Greenoaks Funeral Home at 9595 Florida Blvd. in Baton Rouge.
