Vernon A. Breaux, 95, was born in Notleyville, Louisiana, on November 29, 1925, and was a longtime resident of Baton Rouge. He passed away at his home on October 24, 2021. Vernon served in the South Pacific during WWII as a proud member of the U.S. Navy but later worked as a draftsman and retired after many years from Lasseigne and Legett, AIA. He was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church and was certainly a jack of all trades, but most of all, Vernon loved spending time outdoors working in his yard and garden and being with his family. Vernon graciously served as caregiver to his wife during her illnesses, and now he has been reunited with Gloria “Cinny” Chustz Breaux in Heaven. Also passed on before him are his parents, Gustave and Louise Stelly Breaux; brothers, Warren, Leo, Roy and Gus “Junior” Breaux; and sisters, Gertrude Rivette, Thelma Jones and Muriel Payne. But left to cherish his memory are his children, Andrew “Andy” Breaux and daughter-in-law, Joyce of Lafayette, Stephen “Steve” Breaux of Baton Rouge, and Kathleen Breaux Sylvest and son-in-law, Thomas, of Baton Rouge; grandchildren, Rebecca Breaux Venable and her husband, Dustin, of Sunset, Emily Breaux and her fiancé, David Thibodeaux, of Lafayette, Kaitlyn Breaux of Baton Rouge, and Carly Breaux of Baton Rouge; Great-grandchildren, Cooper, Lylah, and Mordecai Venable, as well as their brother or sister who will join their family in December; sister, Marie Breaux Schexnailder of Arnaudville; sister-in-law, Carmen Chustz of Nashville, TN; and many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 27 from 6 to 8 pm at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East (11000 Florida Blvd). A second visitation will commence at St. Thomas More Catholic Church on Thursday, October 28 at 10 am, followed by service at 11. Burial will take place at Resthaven Garden of Memories.
