
Wallace George Nesbit Jr. joined his Lord on Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009. He was 84. Wally passed away at Ollie Steele Burden Manor nursing home, surrounded with love and affection by family and friends. Wally was born in Cleveland in 1925 and was raised during the Great Depression. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a bachelor of science degree and was a veteran of World War II, having served his country as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Forces, graduating from the San Marcos, Texas, Navigation School. Wally and his family settled in Baton Rouge in 1956 and he served as a regional claims manager for Mutual of Omaha Insurance for 40 years. He founded and was president of Baton Rouge Linen Services. Wally lived for friends and family and in retirement could be found regularly on the golf or tennis courts with his wife, Ann, and friends. He worked tirelessly for the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, picking up canned goods and delivering to those in need. Wally was a charming, happy person with always a kind word to say and will be deeply missed by his family and all who had the good fortune of knowing him. Wally was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace George Nesbit Sr. and Vera Nesbit; three siblings, Peterson Nesbit, Marilyn Nesbit Tolan and Pat Nesbit Tolan; and stepdaughter, Dianne Waldheim Castleberry. Wally is survived by his wife of 27 years, Ann Eve Hallis Nesbit; children, Wallace George Nesbit III, Scott Peterson Nesbit and wife Michelle Odom Nesbit, Cynthia Nesbit Joseph and husband Allen Stewart Joseph, M.D., and Amy Elizabeth Nesbit; grandchildren, Nicholas Clesi Nesbit, Wallace George "Beau" Nesbit IV, Michael Richard Brassett II, Kristen Michelle Brassett, Noel Nesbit Brassett, Callie Nesbit Gorman, Courtney Sinclair Gorman, Andrew Scott Nesbit and Aimee Camille Nesbit; stepchildren, Edward Henry Waldheim, David Martin Waldheim, Mary-Kathryn Hallis Lillback and Christine Hallis Moore; and stepgrandchildren, Margaret Clare Castleberry, Dennis Gordon Castleberry II, Denise Waldheim Rawls, Laura Waldheim Carpenter, Lee Waldheim Oswald, Lauren Elise Lillback, Alexandra Eve Lillback, Joseph Andrew Hallis II, Sarah Hallis-Moore, Luke Jackson Joseph and wife Samantha Bayne Joseph, and Cheney Francis Joseph. Services will be held in the Aldrich Chapel at First United Methodist Church on Wednesday, Dec. 23, at 10 a.m. with visitation from 9 a.m. until service.
