Born in New Orleans on Sept. 15, 1930, he died Sunday, June 27, 2010, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. Visiting at Greenoaks Funeral Home, Tuesday, June 29, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, June 30, from 9 a.m. until service at 10 a.m. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Preceded in death by his mother, Mathilda Fitzpatrick McCann; father, Charles McCann; two brothers; two sisters; and daughter, Linda McCann Patrick. Survived by his former wife, Rose Manale McCann; son, Alvin "Rocky" McCann; and daughter, Peggy McCann Blackwell. Also survived by eight grandchildren and seven great-grandsons. He was loved and admired by many. He helped many in need with financial and personal assistance. He was a member for many years and a past president of the Lakeshore Lions Club and a board member of the Louisiana Lions Eye Foundation. He was a warrant officer in the Louisiana National Guard, former partner of Heroman Construction Co., a residential and commercial contractor, Black Angus cattle rancher and entrepreneur. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, LSU sports fan and worldwide traveler. He will be missed by many. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be made to The Gideons International.
