

A beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and uncle, he was born April 3, 1951, and passed away Friday, Oct. 8, 2010. Bill was preceded in death by his father, Harold Lenard Calkins, who was from Gun Barrel City, Texas, and formerly of Baton Rouge; and his first wife, Linda Allen Calkins, who was of Bossier City. He is survived by his wife, Karen Morace Calkins, of Baton Rouge; mother, Phyllis Jean Calkins, of Gun Barrel City; daughters, Erin Calkins Falterman and her husband, Ryan, of Little Elm, Texas, and Maia Calkins, of Baton Rouge; sons, Liam Calkins and Aidan Calkins, both of Baton Rouge; stepdaughters, Julia Futrell and Madeline Futrell, both of New Orleans, and Grace Futrell, of Baton Rouge; siblings, Carol Calkins, of Dallas, Ron Calkins and his wife, Kelly, of Little Rock, Ark., Scott Calkins and his wife, Debbie, of Baton Rouge, and Karen Calkins Link and her husband, Ken, of Phoenix; grandchildren, Chase William, Emileigh Linda, and Zane Patrick Falterman, all of Little Elm; nieces and nephews, Jennifer Hines and her husband, Spencer, of Tyler, Texas, and their daughter, Caroline, Paul Bordelon and his wife, Erin, and Brian Bordelon, all of Dallas, Kyle and Steven Calkins, both of Baton Rouge, Zoe Calkins, of Little Rock, and Robby and Libby Link, of Phoenix. He is also survived by many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. Bill was a licensed clinical social worker in private practice in Baton Rouge for more than 20 years. His undergraduate degree was from LSU and his master's degree was from Tulane. His passion was people and he spent his days talking and tinkering and guiding people to better choices. Bill was an Eagle Scout, a friend of Bill W., a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and an incredible father and husband. His sense of humor and zest for life will be greatly missed. Services will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, (225) 925-5331, on Tuesday, Oct. 12, at 10 a.m. Interment with military honors will be at Greenoaks Memorial Park on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday, Oct. 11, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., and on Tuesday, Oct. 12, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers and in remembrance of Bill, the family requests that donations be designated for an educational trust fund for his children through the Bluebonnet Branch of Hancock Bank in Baton Rouge.
