A resident of Jackson, Roy passed away at 10 p.m. Monday, Oct. 25, 2010, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center. He was 53, born Aug. 25, 1957, and was a former resident of Winnfield. He was co-owner of Sullivan's Florist of Baton Rouge and was awarded Top Florist of Louisiana. He was a carpenter of "perfection" and a superb handyman. He worked at Dixon Correctional Institute as a security officer when he began his battle with cancer. Roy was a devoted brother, loving uncle and caring friend. He left behind his best friend and beloved companion of 31 years, Don Woodard; and three sisters and their families, Ann and Thomas McCallum, Rebecca and Steve Thornton, and Rene Hatfield. He departs leaving a legacy of eight nieces and nephews and 14 great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline; and father, William Hatfield. He will be dearly missed and forever loved. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be sent to the American Cancer Societyon his behalf. Memorial services will be held at a latter date and time.
