Asa Moses Duncan

Our dad held a few things in very high esteem. His family was always #1 to him. His patriotism stood tall and proud in our home from as far back as we can remember. He loved his friends and the times they would come to visit. And rounding it out, he loved to cook. If you came to visit him, you would eat!

Dad served in the US Army during the years of the infamous WWII. He became a Corporal and told tales of sailing on the USS Monterey and the USS Weigel in the ETO and APO.

Mom and Dad met when he returned from the war and they were soon married. He had found his one true love, and he lovingly cared for her for 56 years, until she went to be with the Lord on January 21, 2013.

Asa was preceded in death by his parents, William Duncan and Nettie Cates; wife, Virginia Duncan; sisters, Ida and Mary; brothers, Everett and Aubrey.

He is survived by his sons, Richard Shafer and wife, Sally; Ronnie Duncan and wife Tami; daughters, Sandy Brewer and husband, Joseph; and Phyllis Duncan-Evans and husband, Larry; grandchildren, Johnny Shafer; Jody Shafer and partner, Monty Manning; Joe Vavra-Shafer; Anita Thompson and husband, Ed; Dean Duncan and wife, Jackie; Joel Miller and wife, Lanyce; Allison Stanley; Caroline Morales and husband, Robert; Marian Brewer; Daniel Bertrand and fiancé, Kyndra; Stephanie Suttle and husband, Kent; and Sara Evans; as well as 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

A visitation for Asa will be held on Friday, January 27, 2017 from 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home with funeral services at same on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 10:00a.m. Graveside military honors at Cedarcrest Cemetery will take place following the funeral services.
