Brenda Joyce Smith

She was born in Birmingham, Alabama on February 12, 1947 to William and Alice Thompson.

Brenda worked as an elementary school teacher and school librarian in Plano and Houston from 1969 until retiring in 2003.

She also taught Sunday school, was a member of a church handbell choir, a member of several education administrator boards, a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Professional Education Society, helped lead a mission trip to Belize, was an officer in the Baytown Ballroom Dancing Club, and volunteered with local schools and libraries.

Brenda loved and enjoyed ballroom dancing, reading, traveling, gardening, and most of all spending time with her beloved grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother Alice Thompson.

Brenda is survived by her husband, William Smith of Baytown, her children- Andrea Smith and Chris Lowe, of Webster, Devin and Brandie Smith of China Spring, Geoffery Smith of Alvin, and Gennifer and Eldar Gafarov of Los Angeles, California, her grandchildren- Talon, Kamryn, Wade, Taylor, Joshua, Elijah, Elise, Cole, Aiden, and Kinlee, as well as her great grandchildren- Lyric and Tinsley.

Visitation will be on Sunday July 11, at 2:30 pm at St. Marks Methodist Church, 3811 North Main Street, Baytown, TX, 77521. Brenda’s Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 pm, with a reception following the service.

Donations can made in Brenda’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
