Burnis Marie Kirby Rhodes

Burnis Marie Kirby Rhodes, age 88, of Baytown, was born January 6, 1925 in Saratoga, TX and passed away on October 13, 2013. Mrs. Rhodes, a long time resident of Baytown, taught at Travis Elementary. After attending Lee College, she graduated from the University of Houston. She was an active member of Central Baptist Church of Baytown and enjoyed planning trips for the church's senior citizens group, Golden Years. She loved traveling and visited all fifty states and several other countries.

She was preceded in death by her parents, S. N. Kirby & Mary Pearl Kirby; husband of 61 years, Herman Rhodes; brother, James Curtis Kirby; half sisters, Christine Kirby, Lena Holland, and Lura Stephens; and half brothers, Jack Hoyt and Johnny Kirby. She is survived by her daughter, Judy Rhodes Denny and husband Donald Denny of Bentley, LA; granddaughters, Michele Quartemont and husband Alan Quartemont and Marsha Lynn McManus and husband Jason McManus; great grandchildren, Miranda, Ariel, Madeline, Micah, Aaron, Andrew, and Mason Quartemont and Shay Lynn and Simon McManus; brothers-in- law, Tom Rhodes and wife Betty Rhodes and Morris C. Rhodes; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Her family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Saturday, October 19, 2013, at Navarre Funeral Home beginning at 9:00 a.m. with a funeral service to follow at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Mark Wells officiating. Graveside services will follow at the Votaw Cemetery in Votaw, TX at 2:30 p.m.

Serving as pallbearers will be Tommy Clark Rhodes, Larry Fitzgerald, Pete Enderli, Charles Guidry, Larry Rhodes, Price Stewart, Micah Quartemont, and Vern Hinklin. Honorary pallbearers will be R. M. Minter and Edward Williams.
