Donald Odell Northrup

Donald, also known as Digger, was born July 4, 1929 to Cecil and Lorraine Northrup in The Heights, TX. This is where he met and married the love of his life, Dorothy Ann Turnipseed. They were married 63 years during which they raised four children, two sons and two daughters.

He served 5 years in the Navy Reserves achieving the rank of sergeant. He retired from ITS (Intermodal Transportation Services) in Houston where he was a marine surveyor. He was a Mason being raised in the Independence Lodge in Corpus Christi, attended Cedar Bayou Lodge while living in Baytown and later joined Trinity Lodge in Livingston where they lived upon retirement. His hobbies included Ham Radio, call sign K5SCR, and weather which led to his involvement in such organizations as Sky warn, Baytown EOC (Emergency Operations Center) serving as chief communications officer, and Wings Over Houston Airshow, where he managed the communications for the medical team for more than 20 years. He loved NASCAR, the Houston Oilers, working in his workshop and greenhouse on his land in ""the woods"" of Livingston. This is where he took grandchildren riding in their golf cart and fishing in their catfish pond.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Lorraine Northrup and son, Donald Olen Northrup.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy Northrup; daughters Renee Richard and husband Shawn of West Hartford, CT, Peggy Baker and husband, Bobby, and son Shawn Northrup and wife, Michele all of Baytown; grandchildren Craig Bowman and wife Becky of Berlin, CT, Laura Bowman and husband, Carson of San Francisco, CA, Mimi Richard of Arlington, VA, Maddie Richard of West Hartford, CT, Bobby Lee Baker, Kevin Baker and wife, Robbyn, Nicholas Northrup and Ryan Northrup all of Baytown, 6 great-grandchildren and numerous friends.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff of Cedar Bayou Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center and Compassus Hospice for the loving care shown to Don for more than a year.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, September 16, 2015 from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home. Funeral services will also be held at Navarre Funeral Home Thursday, September 17, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. with burial to follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston TX. Pallbearers will be Shawn Northrup, Bobby Baker, Bobby Lee Baker, Shawn Richard, Craig Bowman and Kevin Baker.
