She is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Emory Hallman, parents Turner and Ethel McClain, and sisters Dorothy Frazar and Murl Smith.
Doris McClain Hallman was born and raised in Baytown, Texas. She was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Lamar University and went on to receive her Master of Education degree from Prairie View A&M.
Doris taught in Sheldon ISD for 30 years. She spent many of those years in the kindergarten classroom, but also taught third and fifth grades. She ended her career in public education as Assistant Principal at Sheldon Elementary and Monahan Elementary. Upon retiring from public education, Doris’ love for the classroom never faded. She went on to teach at San Jacinto Academy and Lighthouse Academy. After several years, she packed her many boxes of crayons, scissors, flash cards and manipulatives and came home to enjoy playing bridge, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter Terrie and Jeff Laird and son Bruce Hallman; grandchildren, Alicia and Jason Morgan, Jonathan and JoJo Laird, Heather and Rob Orchard, Brooke and Haley Hallman; great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Jacob, Jordyn and Izabelle Morgan, Trevor and Harper Laird, and Brenton and Lane Orchard; sisters Marion and Lee LeBouf and Barbara and Donnie Fanestiel; cousin Nadine and Donnie Bossley; several nieces and nephews; and extended family who took special care of her daily Urslin Gustave, Kathy Saunders and Vanessa Saunders.
Her family will receive friends at Earthman Funeral Home on Thursday, May 10, 2019 from 10am – 11am with funeral services following at 11am with Dr. E. Richard Steel officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jerry LeBouf, Randy LeBouf, Lance Frazar, Sam Rayon, Brian Fanestiel, Blake Kratky and Kevin Garcia.
