

Doris Jones Villemez, beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend, went to be with the Lord on Saturday May 24, 2025, age 96, in Baytown, TX. Doris was born March 25, 1929 to Paul S. Jones and Doween (Kuerbis) Jones in Houston, TX and was baptized Doris Doween Lena Marie Jones. She was known as Doris, Mom, Mother, MeMe, Aunt Doris, Daughty, Aunt Daughty and Mama D. Doris loved to tell stories about being raised on Leeland Ave. in Houston. Doris graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1947. She married Lawrence R. Villemez Jr. on November 3, 1951, at Christ Church Cathedral in Houston and were married 47 years until his death on May 24, 1999. They started their family in Pasadena and moved to Baytown, TX to raise their two sons, Stephen and Glenn.
Doris loved her family deeply and enjoyed her time attending the many activities with family and especially all her Grandson’s school and church activities. Doris cherished every moment with all her family including her nieces and nephews. She always gave a kiss and hug and always said “I love you” when saying goodbye.
Doris never met a stranger and had the gift of conversation. She loved to complement total strangers and always had a kind word to say to everyone.
Doris loved to shop at Macys, Kroger, and Target. She loved to entertain family for holidays and birthdays. She loved Christmas, decorating her home, attending Christmas Eve service with family and celebrating the birth of Jesus.
Doris loved her neighbors in Brownwood and Cedar Bayou Park. They are lifelong friends and considered her family and loved them dearly. She also “adopted” many families that crossed her path or helped her in some way and loved them like family.
Doris loved to travel and enjoyed many driving trips exploring the United States with her husband and enjoyed a fun trip to Disney with her cousin Betty, who was like a sister. Doris was a huge Astros fan and loved to watch every game. She loved to take pictures and always had a camera in her purse. She took many treasured photos and always shared with others. Doris loved sending greeting cards for all occasions and would spend hours reading the greeting cards at the stores. She always had to have the perfect card to send along with the perfect postage stamp. She was also known as the candy lady as she made candy sacks for all the family, neighbor children, friends and church family for holidays and birthdays. She carried that tradition on with having a candy basket in her room at St. James for everyone to enjoy. Doris was a gifted artist and painted many beautiful oil paintings displayed in her house and treasured gifts to family members.
Doris was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Baytown,TX for over 65 years. She was very faithful and loved to worship with family and friends at Trinity.
Doris is survived by her sons, Stephen and his wife Joanne of Mont Belvieu, TX, Glenn and his wife Kathy of Highlands, TX, Grandson Evan and wife Elise, Great Grandchildren Grey and Gena, and many cherished nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence R. Villemez Jr., her parents, Paul S. and Doween Jones, Lawrence R and Valerie Villemez Sr., brother Eddie Jones and wife Ruthie, brother Milton and wife Joyce, Brother/Sister in laws: Raymond and Molly Villemez, Joseph and Barbara Villemez, Herman and Jeannine Villemez, nephew Joe Villemez, nieces Laura Cornett, Deborah Eldrige and Connie Watson.
Doris will be greatly missed by all who knew her love, kindness and thoughtfulness. The family wishes to extend our heartfelt gratitude to St. James House for the kindness, care and love she received during her stay.
Funeral Service will be held on June 13, 2025, at 11:00AM at Trinity Episcopal Church, 5010 N. Main Street, Baytown, TX 77521, with the Rev. Dr. Meredith Crigler officiating. A reception will immediately follow the service. Interment will follow the reception at Anahuac Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church Endowment Fund, Trinity Prayer Blanket Ministry or charity of your choice in Doris’s honor.
