

Eugene ""Gene or Boo Boo"" Cashat, 57, of Houston, formerly Baytown was born March 28, 1954 in Baytown and passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at his home. He was a 1972 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown and attended Sam Houston State University and Texas Tech University, where he played baseball at all three schools. He graduated from Lee College. He retired from ExxonMobil in 2006, where he made many good friends and was able to indulge his love of travel. He lived in Singapore and traveled to many places across Europe. He had a lifelong love of baseball as both a player and coach, mentoring several young players in various youth leagues. He was especially proud of his work as a volunteer for the Child Advocates, Inc., where he was chosen as the Volunteer of the Year for 2011-2012.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leroy Cashat. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Melanie Cashat of Houston; sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Patricia Cashat of Seabrook and Blake and Sarah Cashat of Houston; mother, Loyce Cashat of Baytown; brothers and sisters-in-law, Boyce Lee and Sharon Cashat of Davenport, OK and Richard and Diane Cashat of San Antonio; grandson, Bryce Cashat; and his many close friends at ExxonMobil.
His family will receive friends for a memorial visitation at Navarre Funeral Home Saturday, October 22, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. At his request, there will be no funeral and he will be cremated.
