Evangelina Pena

Evangelina graduated from Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas and earned her master’s degree from the University of Houston, Clearlake. She was an educator, who taught girls physical education in Waco, Riviera and Premont, TX and was the volleyball coach in both Premont and Riviera. She then served as department chair of the ESL Department at Sterling High School in Baytown TX and later as a counselor at Galena Park High School. She was so devoted to her students. She exposed them to many community activities and even took a group of students to Washington D.C. She retired from Galena Park. She had a sense of giving and spent a great deal of her time helping the less fortunate and was always ready to listen.

Evangelina is survived by her husband, Alfonso Pena; sons, Javier and Jaime Pena; sister Aurora Solis; brothers, Gilbert Garza and wife, Lupita and Carlos Garza and wife, Yolanda; brothers-in-law, Oscar Pena and wife, Debbie, George Pena and wife, Mary; sisters-in-law, Linda Ann Munoz and husband, Daniel and Mary Margaret Escobedo and husband, Eliseo as well as many other family and friends.

What her loved ones will always remember was her wonderful sense of humor and her devotion to her family. She enjoyed family gatherings and was always willing to lend a helping hand.

Her favorite pastime was going to Las Vegas and to the Coushatta Casino in Louisiana with her husband.

Her family especially wishes to thank Faith Community Hospice for the love, care and service they have given her in the past three years.

A visitation is scheduled for Friday, December 8, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. with a rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home, 2444 Rollingbrook Drive in Baytown, TX.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 800 W. Baker Rd. Baytown, TX. 77521, on Saturday December 9, 2017 at 10: 00 a.m.

Interment will follow at Cedarcrest Cemetery.
