

She was preceded in death by her parents, Pauline and Jerome Buchanan, of Grand Saline, Texas; the love of her life, Thurman V. Dodson of Baytown, Texas; and her beloved son, Kevin J. Dodson.
She is survived by three loving sons and their families: Tim and Lisa Dodson of Wimberley, Texas; Chris and Sherry Dodson of Kimberling City, Missouri; Kyle Dodson and fiancé, Diana DeSalme of Baytown, Texas. Mema, as she was known to her grandchildren, was blessed with 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Fern was best known to friends and family by her powerful personality and her Southern grace and hospitality. As a young girl growing up in Grand Saline, Texas, she was honored as the senior graduate with the highest GPA and as head cheerleader. Later she met her soulmate and husband of 65 years, Thurman ""TV"" Dodson. She and TV moved to Baytown where they raised four boys, the joy of their lives, and built a successful life. She was a member of Pruett and Lobit Church of Christ and worked over twenty years at Goose Creek school district where she touched many lives as a secretary and a librarian. Her commanding presence and beauty was visible in everything she touched. She was a lover of jewelry, antiques, good food, garage sales, and coffee. She was passionate about her family, her grandchildren, her home in Baytown, the Coker Hill Ranch in Athens, Texas, and most of all her faith in God.

Her family will greet friends at a visitation at Navarre Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Graveside services will be Friday, July 20, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at Haven of Memories Memorial Park in Canton, Texas.
