when I awake, I will see You face to face and be satisfied.”
Psalm 17:15
Jackie Paul King, age 70, of El Paso, Texas, passed away on May 13, 2026.
Paul was born on April 18, 1956, at San Jacinto Hospital in Baytown, Harris County, Texas. He was raised in the church by his parents and, in his twenties, accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Baytown until 1993, when he moved his membership to First Baptist Church in Jasper, Texas.
Paul was educated in Goose Creek CISD and graduated in 1977.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathryn Joyce King (2024), and his father, Thomas Creed King (1984).
He is survived by his sister, Kathryn Jo King Parada and her husband Jose and their children Lauren, Alan, and Ameira; his brother, Tommy King and his wife Debie and their children Kristan and Cody (wife Rachel) and their children Gideon and Melody; his brother, David G. King and his children Jacob, Briane and David Thomas (wife Amy) and their children Kristian and Scarlett; and his brother, Chris King and his wife Jennifer and their children Jenna, Thomas, Landon, Shelby, and Kaylee (husband Ryan) and their children Kadence and Rhett.
Paul was the third of five children and lived on Utah Street in Baytown for 37 years. As a child, he loved riding his blue convertible pedal car up and down the driveway and sidewalk. He also enjoyed riding with family in many different vehicles—from a Craftsman scooter, to a Cessna 210, to a 15-foot Lone Star ski boat with a 75 HP Evinrude motor.
Few vehicles meant more to Paul than the Dreamer cab-over camper on the 1965 Chevy pickup truck. Each summer, as soon as school was out, Paul would begin packing the camper for family trips across the United States. Because he did most of the packing, he was the only one who knew where everything was located.
As he grew older, Paul showed a quiet adventurous spirit, exploring his neighborhood on his bike and placing pennies on railroad tracks at the family farm in Oklahoma.
After his father’s passing in 1984, Paul moved with his mother
to Evanston, Wyoming, where he worked outdoors in a state program serving adults with special needs. Despite the challenges of the climate and environment, Paul never complained and remained faithful to his Christian values.
In 1988, Paul and his mother returned to Baytown, where he worked alongside her at First Baptist Church. In 1993, following her marriage to Virgil Brown, they moved to Jasper, Texas, where they built a home on 17 acres and spent 21 years enjoying country life with family and their dogs, especially Bailey.
After Virgil’s passing in 2014, Paul, his mother, and Bailey returned to the Baytown area. In the years that followed, Paul lived with family and faithfully helped care for his mother as her health declined. When asked about that time, Paul simply said it was his choice to care for her, and it was not a burden.
Following his mother’s passing in March of 2024, Paul lived with his sister Kathy and her husband Jose, where he was loved and cared for.
Paul will be remembered for his steady faith, his love for family, and his quiet, faithful life.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
