

James was born Sunday, May 13, 1928 on Mother’s Day in Temple, TX, to parents Jim Grady Fields and Elsie B. Tomerlin Fields. James came to Pelly, TX, now Baytown, TX in 1939 when his father went to work for Humble Oil & Refining Co., now ExxonMobil. In his younger years he grew up in Lott, TX where he finished his elementary school years. He graduated from Horace Mann Jr. High, Robert E. Lee High School, and Lee College. He served four years in the U. S. Army in the Rangers and 1st Special Forces Group. He retired from Mobil Corp. in 1990 with 40 years of service. After retiring, his special hobby was metal detecting, which he truly enjoyed going and being with his friends. James accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at the age of 14 at the Baptist Temple in Pelly, TX. Later he became a member of Second Baptist Church. Next to God, James loved his family, friends, and country.
James was a Senior Demolay for 65 years, becoming a member of the Tri-Cities Chapter, Baytown. He was a 57 year member and Past Master of the Goose Creek Masonic Lodge #1192 AM & FM. He was an endowed member and 32nd degree Mason of the Scottish Rite Bodies. He was a longtime member of Cedar Bayou Chapter #11, Order of The Eastern Star and the American Legion.
James was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, Miriam Linette Fields, and a daughter, Linda Dianne Fields-Upton. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Dorothy Fields; daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and George Burnett III; sons and daughters-in-law, Cecil W. and Gloria Turner and Kris A. and Sue Fields; grandchildren and their spouses, Elizabeth and Robbie Wallace, Kristi and Bill Whitney, Jeremy and Michelle Kervin, Troy and Tara Fields, Scott Kervin, James Turner and Blaine Burnett; great grandchildren, Kaegan Wallace, Meagan Whitney, and Brittany, Jessica and J. T. Kervin.
Visitation will be at Navarre Funeral Home Sunday, July 29, 2007 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Funeral services with Masonic Rites will be at Navarre Funeral Home Monday, July 30, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jerry Lyons officiating. Burial with military rites will follow at White Cemetery.
“I thank you God for giving me a loving, kind husband and real family man like James. We walked hand in hand for the many years you gave us, thankful for each one. We laughed together and cried together. You gave us a lot of happiness and went with us through some deep valleys, and brought us out. James, I will miss you everyday I am on this earth without you. Thank you for the sweet memories. I could not have made this journey without you by my side. I will always love you…..Dorothy.”
The family wants to thank all of their wonderful friends for being there for them. It helps more than you will ever know. Thank you for your prayers; he felt them. When they need God’s grace most, it is there for them. They would also like to thank the nurses and staff a Angel’s Above Us, Odyssey Hospice and Dr. Pamela Medellin.
