He is also survived by his sisters, Elaine Davisson (widow of Charles Davisson) and Paula Lasiter (husband Jeff), brother-in-law James D. Morris (wife Helen), as well as numerous extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Charles Davisson.
Raised in Odessa, Texas, James graduated in 1964 from Odessa High School, where he excelled academically, ranking in the top 10% of his class. He was an active member of the Key Club, track team, and band. After high school, he attended Odessa Junior College and Baylor University, studying business and law.
James began his career in the banking industry as a teller and cashier in Odessa. He soon moved to Waco to study at Baylor University where he met and then married Ronna Kaye Morris. They welcomed their only child, Heather, to the world in 1971. His career flourished after the family relocated to Houston in 1975, where he worked as a cashier, banker, loan officer, and supervisor for banks in the Houston, Alvin, and Bayton areas. James ultimately settled in Baytown, Texas, serving as Senior Vice President at Amegy Bank Baytown/La Porte. He retired after a long and successful career in banking.
An avid golfer, James also enjoyed hunting, fishing, ranching, traveling, and studying the history of the American Southwest. A devoted fan of Baylor sports, he rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on the Baylor Bears.
James was a pillar of service in both his community and church, devoting his time and talents to making a lasting impact on those around him. He was an active volunteer with organizations such as Kiwanis, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Seafarers, Rotary, and served as a trustee for the Baptist General Convention of Texas. Always driven by a desire to uplift and support others, his collaboration with Houston Methodist to improve the patient experience exemplified his compassion and commitment to enhancing the lives of those in need. Within the church, James served faithfully as a Deacon, Chairman of several committees, Sunday School instructor, and Treasurer, embodying his deep faith and dedication to his congregation. His selflessness, leadership, and unwavering commitment to service will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Soft-spoken and reserved, James had a dry wit and a collection of corny jokes that never failed to make his wife, daughter, and grandson laugh. Known for his kindness and willingness to help others, he was always ready to lend a hand, whether repairing a roof or offering financial advice.
James Wayne Prickett will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of faith, kindness, and integrity lives on in the hearts of his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on February 2nd, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Rollingbrook Fellowship Church, 505 Rollingbrook Dr., Baytown, TX 77521. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to American Heart Association or a charity of your choice.
