

John Wesley Day, age 90, of Baytown, died, January 4, 2005. He was born in Brookhaven, Mississippi, on October 3, 1914, to Jesse Walker and Minnie Nusom Day. In 1932 a few years after his mother’s death, he moved to Goose Creek to live with his brother and sister-in-law, George and Dorothy Day. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. After 40 years of service with Exxon, he retired in 1975.
He was preceded in death by his wife and high school sweetheart, Nelda Moody Day, having been happily married for 62 years. He is also preceded in death by six brothers and four of his sisters.
He is survived by his daughter & son-in-law, Donna & Keith Lawhon, son & daughter-in-law, Kenneth & Cindy Day of Baytown, grandchildren, Brian and Jayme Lawhon of Stickney, Illinois, Leslie and Mason Sheffield of Conyers, Georgia, Stephen and Robin Day of Houston, Stephanie Day of Baytown, Gary and Jennifer Pitts of Dayton and Donnie Pitts of Baytown, great grandchildren, John Wesley Lawhon, Daniel and Oliver Komornicki, Mason and Jacob Pitts, and Whitney Pond, his sister Louise Kimball of Boise, Idaho, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gene and Jo Ann Moody of Baytown and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Services are scheduled for Saturday, 2:00 pm at Navarre Chapel with Rev. Brad Hoffman officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Brian Lawhon, Stephen Day, Gary Pitts, Donnie Pitts, Mason Sheffield, Danny Komornicki, and Trey Rains. Honorary Pallbearers are great grandsons, Oliver Komornicki, Wesley Lawhon, Mason Pitts, and Jacob Pitts. Special thanks to our Godsend Sylvia Jeffrey.
