

John Lee Smilie, 70, formerly of Baytown passed away on July 14, 2013 in Lubbock, TX. John was born on January 9, 1943 in Baytown to the late John and Dolly Smilie. John lived in Baytown with his wife, Geneva, until he retired from being a truck driver three years ago. It was then that the couple moved to the rural farm town of Brownfield just south of Lubbock.
John was quite the character. He had a quick wit and loved to aggravate his daughter, Michele LeNa. The only thing he enjoyed more was spending time with his precious grandchildren.
John is preceded in death by his parents; his son, John Lee Smilie, Jr. and his mother and father-in-law, W.A. ""Doc"" and Sadie Lou Curry. Are y'all playing skippo? He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Geneva Smilie; daughter, Michele LeNa Bridges; his sisters, Betty Miller and Kathy Jasper; his grandchildren, Alina and Jeana Ice and miracle granddaughter, Lauren Williams; his cat, Tater and his beloved trucking companion, Gidget, the mini Pomeranian.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 18, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home. There will be a funeral service on Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home, with burial to follow in Cedarcrest Cemetery. E.C. Ice III will officiate.
