Juanita Genoveva Flores went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 6, 2020. She was born in Laredo, Texas on September 25,1961. She is preceded in death by both her parents, Ben and Maria Placida Flores. She leaves behind her partner in life Miguel Bravo and their two children Elizabeth and Joseph Bravo along with Joseph's wife Diana Bravo and Elizabeth’s fiancé Justin Smith. She also leaves behind her greatest love, her grandson, Matthew Ray Guice. Although Matthew was her only biological grandchild she was blessed with many adopted grandchildren: Radiance and Jubilee Crowder, Everby Williams, Zayden, Carson, Justin, Brandin, and Dylan Rodriguez, Jenna and Abraham Ramirez, Austin and Dylan Sprehe, Artemis and Corbin Mize, Savannah and Vicky Mercer, Olivia Valentino and so many other little ones whom she loved as her own. Ella va ser extranada aqui por sus sobrinos y sobrinas en las familias Garcias, Camacho y Arteaga. Tambien deja a sus primos en Mexico que eran como sus hermanos. Janie was also blessed with life given sisters in Gail Malone and Tracy Williams.
She grew up in Killeen,Texas and spent much of her life with family in Tampico and Queretaro, Mexico. Her smile was contagious and could light up a room. So much so that it earned her the nickname “LadySmiles” in college. She graduated from Prairie View A&M in 1985 with a degree in American History. She would move to Baytown in 1990. Janie worked for Loris Gift's At San Jacinto Methodist Hospital with April White for over 14 years. She was a light and joy to many in a place that often sees much pain and sorrow. Every Sunday morning Janie could be found in the St. Marks UMC nursery and loved getting visits from the kids who had outgrown her room. She came to St. Marks through St. Paul's where she made many lifelong friends. Although a Catholic, St. Marks became her church home.
Janie was an adventureer! She was always up for anything, wheather it ment a long car ride or a late night trip to DQ for a moolatte! She passed that love on to her daughter and grandson and shared many adventures with them. Some of her last few birthdays she celebrated aboard a cruise ship and she always looked forward to the next adventure.
She was a true giver. She volunteered and gave so much of her time. She was a PTO parent throughout her children's entire education. Beginning at Pumphrey Elementary where she would later earn a job as an aid. And all the way through to their high school careers where both Joseph and Elizabeth were members at the Sterling MCJROTC, making her an active booster mom for seven consecutive years. She enjoyed volunteering at the thrift shop and would always give her time to any friends that needed her. Many would call upon her for her craftiness and creativity, whether it be to help decorate for a party or just simply create something with her special touch. Janie would also give gifts. Giving was her love language. She was continuously passing out small presents that she knew people would enjoy or that simply reminded her of the recipient. Not a holiday would go by where her co-workers wouldn't receive a goodie bag with candy or chocolates or socks. St. Patrick's Day, Easter, Valentine's Day, every holiday. And every New Year meant a new pocket calendar.
Janie Flores really was an angel on earth. She was kind and loving to all. Her laughter was music. Her smile joyous and bright. She was loved by many and loved even more. She would not want us to mourn her with pain in our hearts but rather with delight that she is surrounded by love and no longer feels any pain. To us it may be many years before we see her again but to her it will only be a blink of an eye until we are reunited. In the meantime, she will be watching over us, protecting us and smiling down on us from heaven, forever and always.
