Maggie Stone Chappell passed away on October 4, 2024 in Baytown, TX at the age of 100. Maggie was born in Nacogdoches, TX on November 8, 1923 and moved to Highlands, TX as a child, where she lived the majority of her life.
Maggie is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Seburn Chappell, as well as her parents, five brothers, one sister and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her special niece, Madeline Kelley and husband James of Baytown, TX and many other nieces, nephews, great, great-great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews whom she lovingly adored.
Maggie graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1941. She was employed by Humble Oil in 1943 and loved her job in the benefits department and the many, many friends she made during her years there. She retired from Exxon in 1982 after nearly 40 years. During her retirement years she enjoyed “the place” on Lake Livingston with her husband and numerous friends. She was a member of the Lady’s Association at Goose Creek Country Club, and she loved her travels to many wonderful places around the world and she always said, “Maui is my favorite of all”! She loved telling others, “I’ve been retired longer than I worked at Exxon”.
Maggie and her husband, Seburn, were members of Second Baptist Church of Highlands from 1947 to 1989 where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. They became members of Memorial Baptist Church in Baytown, TX in 1989 where they served as Greeters for a number of years. Even after Maggie was no longer able to attend Sunday school and church, she continued to support her church and the projects near to her heart. She especially loved her work with the Care Team Outreach and the annual Christmas projects that provided for children and families in need. Maggie celebrated her 100th birthday with a big party in November 2023. There were over 100 people in attendance to help her celebrate this amazing milestone showing just how loved she was.
A heartfelt thank you to those that have provided loving and devoted care to Mrs. Maggie over the years and recently; Tina Lewis, Cynthia Moreno, Vera Francois, Tricia Coomer, and Wendy Pierre, as well as, the wonderful staff at Divinity Hospice.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 9 at 10 am immediately followed by a service at 11 am in the chapel of Navarre Funeral Home, 2444 Rollingbrook Drive, Baytown, TX. She will be laid to rest at White Cemetery in Highlands, TX. In lieu of flowers, Maggie requests any memorials be made to Memorial Baptist Church and designated to the “Care Team Outreach” which she lovingly supported over the years, or to the charity of your choice.
