Mercedes P Martinez

Mercedes Martinez, 73, of Baytown, Texas, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 14, 2019. Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die." John 11:25-26

Mercedes was born on October 13, 1945, in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico to Jose and Estela Pacheco. She was blessed to be married to her best friend and husband, Genaro Martinez, for 59 years. Mercedes was a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She enjoyed to be with family, cook, dance and listen to music. She was a very giving person and loved to help anyone in need. She loved her job as child caregiver at ABC Childcare. She was also a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Estela Pacheco; daughter, San Juanita Martinez; brothers, Fernando Pacheco, Rogelio Garza; grandchildren, Joseph Martinez and Luke Angel Martinez. She is survived by her loving husband, Genaro Martinez; daughters and son-in-laws, Dora and Alfonso Cavazos, Laura and Gilbert Estrada, Nora and Javier Castillo, Norma and Efrain Lucatero; her sons and daughter-in-laws, Genaro and Maria Martinez, Cesar and Letty Martinez; brothers and sister-in-laws, Rafael and Rosa Pacheco, Jose and Martha Pacheco; and sister-in-law, Modesta Garza. She was blessed with 20 grandchildren, Eduardo, Richard, Mayra, Joel, Lizzette, Raul, Ericka, Aron, Franky, Jose, Johnny, Joselynn, Krystal, Tiffany, Genaro, Ryan, Emma, Emmanuel, Yazmin and Maritza; 20 great-grandchildren and also numerous nieces, nephews, and cherished friends. Pallbearers: Cesar Martinez, Genaro Martinez, Emmanuel Martinez, Aron Castillo, Jose Chairez Jr and Johnny Chairez. Honorary Pallbearers: Franky Martinez, Joel Garza, Raul Castillo, Eduardo Pruneda, Richard Pruneda, Samuel Mora, Giovanni Mora and Devin Mora, Genaro Martinez Jr. and Ryan Martinez.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock in the afternoon until eight o’clock in the evening on Wednesday, the 17th of April, Earthman Baytown Funeral Home, 3919 Garth Road in Baytown with a rosary to be recited at seven o’clock. A Mass of Christian Burial honoring Mercedes is to be celebrated at eleven o’clock on Thursday, the 18th of April, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1124 Beech Street in Baytown with Father Jesus Lizalde officiating . Interment will follow at Earthman Memory Gardens, 8624 Garth Road in Baytown.
