The youngest son of Delroy and Edna Mulkey of Baytown, Texas, He grew up in Cedar Bayou and attended Ross S. Sterling High school. He is survived by his two older brothers, three adult children, plus an adopted son. In addition, a combined count of ten grandchildren accounts for his lineage.
Michael Dale Mulkey, known as “Mikadel” by his close friends and family, began his career in the Baytown/Deer Park Petro-Chemical Industry in the early 1970s. After many years of plant work, Mike left that behind with the support of his family to become Captain of a Gulf Shrimp boat. The calm, open water, seagulls, and clear sky overhead brought him his most tremendous peace. He then transitioned into a private company that sold and serviced industrial-size sandblasting rooms and equipment in Texas, New Mexico, Louisiana, and Oklahoma territories. He retired after approximately twenty-one years in this career field. During his adult life, the weekends were spent in his front yard in McCollum Park, hosting many neighbors with superb BBQ chicken, cold beer, and lively laughing good times. “Mikadel” was known for his quick wit, captivating smile, and command presence amongst those that knew and loved him.
After retirement, he enjoyed his secret to a comfortable life: AC, Iced Tea, and TV. A documentary film buff, he spent his days with a large flower vase-sized glass of sweet iced tea while watching everything history related. In addition, a constant barrage of 10 grandchildren coming and going kept him smiling throughout his life.
At the deceased request, he was cremated upon passing and brought back home to his family. During a conversation about passing on a few years ago, he was asked by his eldest son, “Dad. What would you like done when you pass?” He responded, “Aww, son, just bring me back to the house and set my urn up where I can see the TV,” with that laughter and a smile. This request has been honored.
