It is with deep heartbreak that we share the passing of Norma Faye (Smith) Hicks, 83, who lived on the family farm in Crosby, Texas. She was born on September 15, 1942, in Macedonia, Texas, to the late Jasper and Gussie (Blackwell) Smith, and passed away on January 12, 2026. She was a proud graduate of Tarkington High School. She met the love of her life, Gene Hicks, at Macedonia Assembly of God, where they were later wed. They had just celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on New Year’s Eve.
She was a devoted mother and Nana to many, loving each one fiercely in her own special way. She definitely had her favorites—and then there was her “baby boy”—but her grandkids and great-grandkids truly became her greatest pride and joy. In her eyes, they could do absolutely no wrong… and she wouldn’t hear otherwise.
Sunday was her favorite day of the week, devoting Sunday morning to church, weather permitting, and ending her day cooking Sunday night dinner with her family—the people she cherished most. She took pride in sharing meals, whether on Sundays or holidays, but most importantly, when her family gathered together, laughter was shared abundantly and love was always served, because to her that’s what mattered most. To know her was to love her, and anyone who had the privilege was blessed beyond measure.
Norma is survived by her husband, Gene Hicks Sr.; children Sue & Billy Ray, Shelia & Mike Ebrom, Angela & Ronnie Parrish, and Gene & Rachel Hicks; grandchildren Royce & Chelsea Cornett, Roslyn & Cody Gleason, Evan & Haley Ray, Roy Alan & Jenny Cornett, Connor Ebrom, Reece & Amy Parrish, Ronna Parrish, Ryland & Reiden Hicks, Marty & Amanda Ray, Cody & Laura Ray, and Brennan & Harlee Ray; and great-grandchildren Jagger Strickhausen, Jett & Joplyn Cornett, Hayes, Marley, & Maelyn Gleason, Mackenzie Heath, Case & Declan Parrish, Cutter, Shooter, & Gunner Cornett, and Carter, Lainey, Layson, Landri, & Colton Ray. She is also survived by her sister, Charlene Gregory, and sister-in-law, Margie Hicks, along with numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
Preceded in death by Pearl & El Ray Vandver, Amy & Lloyd Crippens, Gladys & Thurman Franklin, Pat & Thurman Eddlemon, Joe & Faye Smith, Claude Gregory, Austin and Minnie Hicks, George & Aileen Hicks, and Roy Hicks.
She leaves behind cherished friends Melinda Burleson, Nita Adcox, Wanda Sheppard, and Jacque Chechourka, with whom she shared many laughs.
The family would like to thank pallbearers Royce Cornett, Reece Parrish, Ryland Hicks, Reiden Hicks, Connor Ebrom, Cody Gleason, Evan Ray, and Roy Alan Cornett. We are grateful for honorary pallbearers Dwayne Hill, Jerry Burleson, Pascual Olivares, James Blaha, and Dennis Lazard Sr. They also extend heartfelt gratitude for the support, prayers, and kindness shown during this time.
