Rod Harmon, 77, was born October 11, 1937, in Baytown and transitioned from this life to go home to his eternal rest on Saturday, April 11, 2015, at his home in Baytown with his wife by his side after a long courageous and valiant battle with pancreatic cancer.
Rod retired from DuPont Chemical in La Porte in 1996. He was a member of Cedar Bayou Masonic Lodge #321 and Memorial Baptist Church, where he was a member of The Living Word Sunday School Class, which was very special to him. He loved reading, traveling, and socializing and was always active and athletic. He loved running, hunting, fishing, and football. He played on the 1955 Barbers Hill High School Championship football team, coached YMCA football, and loved to watch football on TV, especially his beloved Texas A & M. He was 110% Aggie!
Rod never met a stranger. He loved to talk and tell his ""stories"". He was a great storyteller and photographer. He liked to sing and play the harmonica. Rod was a very giving and generous person. He always tried to fix everything for everyone else and never met a challenge that he could not overcome until his final challenge with cancer. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank P. Harmon and Mary Madalene Webber. He is survived by his devoted wife of 39 ½ years, Carole Harmon, who loved him beyond measure; stepson and wife, Brian and Jeanne Gordon and his grandson who was the joy of his life, Paris Gordon; son, Rod Harmon, Jr.; sister, Glenda Johnson; special niece, Nancy Frazier; and many special friends.
His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life with Masonic Rites will be Thursday, April 16, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at Navarre Funeral Home with Rev.
