

THELMA ERNESTINE TURNER, 101, died on May 16th, 2011. She was born in Chandler, Texas on December 20, 1909. Thelma grew up in a family of seven children and was preceded in death by all six of her siblings. She lived in and around Bullard, Texas until she married, and was a proud member of the 1927 graduating class of Bullard High School.
In January, 1935 she married her husband of 44 years, Wiley Davis Turner. They moved to Nederland, Texas immediately after marriage and made their home there until Wiley’s death in 1979. Thelma and Wiley loved their life together in Nederland and Thelma stayed in touch with many of her close friends throughout the rest of her life.
Soon after Wiley’s death Thelma moved to Baytown, Texas where she would be closer to her three sisters and to her son and daughter-in-law who lived in Houston. While in Baytown she was an active member of Northside Baptist Church and her Sunday School class, the “Gold Class”. Thelma lived in Baytown until August, 2003, when at the age of 93, she moved to The Woodlands, Texas where she lived with her son and daughter-in-law, Curley and Sue Turner.
Survivors include Curley and Sue Turner, two grandsons, Kenneth Turner of St. George, Utah, and Gary Turner and wife Leslie of Kerrville, Texas and one great grandson, Grayson Matthew Turner of Kerrville.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at Earthman Funeral Home, 3919 Garth Road, Baytown, Texas, 77521, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held at Earthman Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at 10:00 am. She will be buried next to her husband, Wiley, at Oak Bluff Cemetery, 101 Block St., Port Neches, Texas at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, May 18, 2011.
