

Walter Cooper was born July 8, 1906, and departed this earth Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at the age of 103 years, 11 months, and 21 days. He is survived by his wife, Estelle Loftin Cooper; daughter, Betty Morgan and husband, Walt Morgan; grandsons, Pat Naughtin and wife, Non, Shawn Naughtin, and John Boriack; granddaughter; Susan Boriack; great grandson, Josh Naughtin and wife, Wendi; great great grandchildren, Lilly Catherine and Cooper Naughtin; stepchildren, Earline Loftin Fulton and husband, Charlie, Merline Loftin Fogtman and husband, Robert, and Deloris Bridges and husband, Leon; and stepdaughters-in-law, Carolynn Loftin and Glenda Loftin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Franklin and Elizabeth Frazier Cooper; wives, Lois Miller Cooper, Margaret Verre Whiddon Cooper, and Ann Williams Cooper; daughter, Caterine Naughtin; brothers, Earnest Cooper, Raymond Cooper, Fred Cooper, and Leslie Cooper; sisters, Aliene Ridley, Bertha Williams, and Hazel Kennedy; and stepsons, James Loftin and Jack Loftin.
He was born in Call, TX, later moved to Dayton and attended school 10 years, then moved to Lufkin and completed his education. He was an all-around athlete, playing, baseball, football, basketball, and ran track. In his spare time he sold newspapers and worked at the local bakery before school. He earned a university scholarship in football. However he met Lois Miller, the love of his life and married. He held various jobs until moving to Baytown in 1925 went to work for Humble Oil and Refining, retiring approximately 43 years later.
At 17, he became a member of the Dayton Methodist in Dayton. Then he joined Cedar Bayou Baptist Church, by baptism on June 24, 1944. He was a faithful member working on the ""chicken house"" (Cedar Bayou's first meeting place), and helped build their first sanctuary. Honorary Pallbearers will be his Sunday School Class.
His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday, July 1, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Navarre Funeral Home with Dr. Mark Broussard officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Walter was a good man, husband, father, and faithful to God. He fought a good fight and kept the faith and knew Heaven awaited him.
