Harold was born to Alcide Jean "A.J." Broussard and Carise Delhomne Broussard on July 14, 1937 in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana. He moved with his parents to Beaumont, Texas where his father opened a grocery store. An only child, he spent summers in Louisiana with his Cajun family where he learned to tell his Boudreaux and Thibodeaux jokes.
He graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1955 and married his high school sweetheart, Alice Jones in 1957. He attended Lamar College and joined the Marine Corps. He remained in the reserves for 14 years. In 1959, he began working for Southern Pacific Railroad for 14 years as a Switchman. In 1972 he bought Cajun Concrete and worked as a contractor for 25 years. His son, Harold Jr. "Bubba", worked alongside him for many years.
Harold loved to hunt and fish and spend time with his grandchildren. His children and grandchildren inherited his love for the outdoors. Like his father, he was a diehard Astros and Cowboys fan. He was a 4th Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus #951, and spent years fundraising and serving the community. He played softball with the Knights of Columbus, worked to raise money for Boys Haven and supported St. Anthony School fundraisers all his life.
Harold was tough on his children, but loved them deeply. He was generous to a fault with his friends and complete strangers. He worked hard to support his family. He never met a stranger and was known for his jokes. He loved MawMaw Jones like she was his own, and he loved his wife's cooking. He left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Harold was preceded in death by his mother Carise Delhomne and his father A.J. Broussard.
Harold is survived by his wife, Alice Jones Broussard; his daughter Renee B. Hubbell and husband Carl; his daughter Andree B. Moore; his daughter Desiree B. Unruh and husband Darwin; his son Harold L. Broussard, Jr.; and his daughter Sheree B. Downs and husband Troy. He also leaves behind 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren to cherish his memory.
A Rosary for Harold will be held Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 9:30 AM at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica, 700 Jefferson St, Beaumont, Texas 77701, followed by a Catholic Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM.
Harold will be laid to rest in Friday, June 24, 2022 at 3:00 PM at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 4955 Pine Street, Beaumont, Texas in the Sunset Garden.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica School and Church.
