Lillie Ruth “Jerri” Brooks Stroud, 100, passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at Brookdale Assisted Living in Beaumont, Texas. She was born and grew up in a rural community near Eastland, Texas. As a young adult, she moved to San Diego, California where she met and married her husband, Earl Stroud. They were married for 44 years.

Lillie was a homemaker and a very talented seamstress. She taught herself to sew and made all her daughters’ clothes. Later, she began sewing for the public, where she made many treasured friendships. Along with sewing, Lillie crocheted, loved to read, and cared for her many plants. Her green thumb rescued many friends’ plants that needed a second chance!

Lillie was preceded in death by her parents, Hiriam Brooks and Maddie Elizabeth Sasser Brooks; her husband, Earl Preston Stroud; son-in-law, Robert ‘Bob” Carroll; brothers, Nolan Brooks and Odell Brooks; sisters, Ella Brooks Shirley, Sally Brooks Woody, and Amy Brooks Petersen.

Lillie is survived by her daughters, Linda S. Carroll of Beaumont, Texas and Sharron K. Brittain and husband Pat of Greenwood, Indiana; grandchildren, Jill S. Gerlufsen and husband Heath of Beaumont, Texas, Emily Brittain of Houston, Texas, and Justin Brittain of Greenwood, Indiana; great-grandchildren, Zachary Lee Gerlufsen, Gracie Elizabeth Gerlufsen, and Parker Robert Gerlufsen, all of Beaumont, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sharron, Pat & Justin, what an honor to have met Mawee. I have so many memories from the Thanksgiving day trips to Garden Ridge, birthday celebrations, and more. She was such a sweet, kind lady who made a fantastic Strawberry cake and a mean Roast Beef Sandwich and, despite her small stature, was truly Texas tough.

Your family and friends are in my prayers and thoughts at this time.

Ruth was always an inspiration to me. She was always very ladylike and dressed beautifully! She was never afraid to speak her mind and loved to share stories of the Brooks family. During WW2 she worked hard in some type of defense plant. She lived in San Diego at the time but never forgot her Texas roots! She was a great Aunt to her nieces and nephews. She survived Covid and lived to be 100. She will be missed!
