Marta Sue Stagg, age 89, of Beaumont, Texas passed away on Friday January 11, 2019 in Beaumont. Marta Sue was born June 2, 1929 in Konawa, Oklahoma to William Jesse and Hazel Patricia Mogridge Robinson.
Marta Sue graduated from Beaumont High School in 1946 and trained as a nurse at the Hotel Dieu School of Nursing. She later earned an Associate of Arts degree from Lamar University. Nursing was a lifelong passion for Marta. She was administrative supervisor at Baptist Hospital for 3 years, the administrative supervisor at Schlesinger's Nursing Home, and later the director of nurses at The Clairmont.
Marta Sue's best friend was Margaret Jackson. They rode horses together all over town. After WWII, she married Margaret's brother Thomas Edgar Jackson, a deputy sheriff, and had three children: Margaret Adrian and twins, Thomas Edgar Jr. and Johnny Sue "Susan." She later married J. Howard Stagg, a prominent rice farmer. After his death, she never remarried. Although she never had children with Howard, soon after his death her daughter Margaret gave birth to her first grandchild, Krin. While Margaret traveled, she raised Krin as her own, with a lot of help from her best friend Mikabee Jones.
Marta was a member of the Amelia Baptist Church, as well as a member of the Wisteria Chapter No. 823, Order of the Eastern Star. She belonged to The Beaumont Club, The Beaumont Farm and Ranch Club, and The Texas Farm Bureau. Marta also was on the board of directors of Elizabeth Rice Dryer in Beaumont. She loved watching old westerns, scary movies, shopping a Target, going to thrift stores and garage sales, and playing Age of Empire on the computer.
Marta Sue is survived by; daughter Johnny Sue "Susan" Myers and her husband John of Beaumont; daughter-in-law Kathleen Jackson of Austin; sister Patsy Ruth Phend of Hamshire; grandchildren, Krin Elizabeth Villacres and her husband Ruben, John Dugan Myers and his wife Raina, Thomas Edgar Jackson III, Megan Suzanne Myers Griffin and her husband Tyler, Gabriel Christopher "Kit" Jackson and his wife Susie, Kathleen Thea Jackson Etlinger and her husband Zack; great grandchildren, Ian Villacres, Olivia Saunders, Cannon Griffin, Elizabeth Jackson, Gatlin Griffin, and twins Jacob Etlinger and Jackson Etlinger.
Marta was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas Edgar Jackson; husband J. Howard Stagg; daughter Margaret Adrian Jackson Jones; son Thomas Edgar Jackson, Jr.; brother Jesse James Robinson and sister Mary Lou Robinson Buchholz.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 15, 2019 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home with funeral services following at 11:00 AM
