Martha L. Wood, 74, of New Haven, Connecticut passed away on Thursday April 5, 2018. Martha was born March 27, 1944 in Beaumont, Texas to Bessie Lee and Julius A. Windham. She grew up on the family rice farm in Nome, Texas.
Martha had a passion for learning: she graduated from French High School in Beaumont, Texas; she attended Tyler Junior College; received a Bachelors Degree in Psychology and English from North Texas University; received a Masters Degree from East Texas State of Commerce; and received a Doctorate Degree in Childhood Development and Psychology of Reading from Texas Women's University. She retired as Acting Dean of the Dental School and Administrator of University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas.
Left to remember Martha is her daughter Karen Wood; step-son Craig Wood; grandchildren Taylor Merriweather, Collin Merriweather, Keith Skala; great-grandchild Ashley Skala; brothers, Jerry A. Windham of Orange and Larry N. Windham of Beaumont; and many other friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Bill Wood and second husband Hebert Pearce; and her brother Terrell Windham.
A Family Celebration of Martha's Life will be held at Forest Lawn Funeral Home on Friday, April 13 at 2:00 pm, officiated by Doug Rogers. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
