Robert Wayne Lakey, 83, died on November 22, 2018 at Silsbee Oaks Health Care, Silsbee, Texas. He was born April 4, 1935 to the late Robert Earl and Eunice Lakey of Lumberton, Texas. After graduating from French High School in Beaumont, Robert earned a degree in mechanical engineering and a Master of Business Administration. He worked in project management for engineering and oil companies with assignments in Europe, Australia, and various U.S. locations. After retirement, he enthusiastically served in the choir at First Baptist Church in Silsbee. Robert had a keen sense of humor, engaging smile, and the gift of enjoying the moment and present company.
Robert is survived by his spouse of 32 years, Jane Hopkins Lakey; daughter, Eugenia Brotherton and spouse, Commander Gregory Brotherton, U.S.N.; daughter, Nicole Hunter, and son, Kerry Wayne Lakey; grandchildren, Staff Sergeant Daniel Lepsch, U.S.M.C., Jesse Brotherton, Joshua Brotherton, Joyce Brotherton, and Jane Brotherton; sisters-in-law , Joy Crenshaw and spouse, Will; Lynn McKim and spouse, James, brother-in-law, Newton Hopkins, Jr.; nieces, Caroline Landry and spouse, Bryce, Elizabeth McKim, Heather Petkovsek and spouse, Mark; nephews, Will Crenshaw II and spouse, Beverly; Casey Crenshaw and spouse, Stacey; Colby Crenshaw and spouse, Gina; Jim McKim, and spouse, Lauren; Newton Hopkins,III, and spouse, Monica; Kirgan Hopkins.
A graveside service will be held on November 29th at 10:00 AM at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 4955 Pine St., Beaumont. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a veteran’s organization. Pallbearers are Staff Sergeant Daniel Lepsch, Jesse Brotherton, Joshua Brotherton, Will Crenshaw II, Casey Crenshaw, Colby Crenshaw, Newton Hopkins, III.
