Janet Lee Hughes

Jan was born on February 18, 1937 in Salem, Oregon and was the daughter of Lawrence V.and Lillian (Anderson) Simmons. She grew up in Salem and attended Salem High School. On February 26, 1955, she married Robert John Hughes at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Salem, Oregon. They had 6 children and resided in Rickreall for 49 years where Jan took great pride in caring for her home and family.

Jan was a member of the Oak Grove Church and was involved with the Rickreall Christmas Pagent for many years. She enjoyed dancing, baking, cooking, camping and traveling to the coast and to Hawaii. She also loved her dogs and her family. Her children and grandchildren were her world and she simply adored the time spent with them.

Jan is survived by her children: Robert Hughes of Salem, Cathy Hughes of Rickreall, Carrie Hughes of Rickreall, Don Hughes of Phoenix, AZ and Mike Hughes of Dallas and her brother, Jim Simmons of Salem along with 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Her husband, Robert and her son, Mark both preceded her in death.

A Celebration of Jan’s life will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 1:00 pm at Oak Grove Church in Rickreall, Oregon. Private interment will take place at Dallas Cemetery. Contributions may be made in memory of Jan to Kids Incorporated, 187 SW Court St, Dallas, OR 97338. Pegg, Paxson & Springer will be handling the arrangements.
