John Eldred Calkins crossed to the other side on March 9, 2017 after a long illness. He has let us know in remarkable ways that he had a safe passage. He was and will always be a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend.
John was born in Kalamazoo, MI on July 24, 1944 to Harmon Eldred and Thelma Roederer Calkins. After an adventurous search for his niche, he settled in Portland, OR, where he spent 32 years as an Operator for Tri-Met, the city's mass transit system. He retired in 2006. He is survived by his wife Emily, sons David and Nathan, sisters Cynthia and Emily, nieces Rebeca and Stephanie, and nephews Todd and Scott. He will be deeply missed.
