

John Seymour was born the 28 of August 1925 in Spokane Washington with the birth name John Joseph Mossuto. He lived ten years in Grand Coulee, Washington and then moved to back to Spokane to complete High School. He participated in sports at John Rogers High School and his 1942 football team were the state champions. He graduated from Rogers in 1943 and immediately enlisted in the US Army where he served as a Sergeant in the 8th Transportation Corps. John was stationed in Great Britain preparing for the Invasion of Normandy and was subsequently deployed to Europe.
John graduated from Gonzaga University in 1951 and thereafter changed his name to John Seymour. He married Helen M. Berggren in 1951 and they moved to Newport WA where they both taught school. In the following year, they moved to Portland where they were employed by the Portland Public School District. In 1959 John received his Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Oregon. He retired in 1983 after teaching 31 years at Grant High School as chairman of the Foreign Language Department. After retirement John enjoyed fishing the nearby streams with his friends, traveling with his wife to Europe and spending times with his family. He was a member of St Michaels & All Angels Episcopal Church.
Survivors include his sons Ken and Keith Seymour, Keith’s wife Linda. His grandsons Daniel Seymour and his wife Julie, John and Jeffrey Seymour. His beloved wife Helen passed away on September 24, 2013.
Interment will be in the Willamette National Cemetery.
