

HAZEL RUTH RAMSEY HANNIGAN OAK HILL - Hazel Ruth Ramsey Hannigan, 92, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 25 at home. She was the last survivor member of her immediate family. Born on January 26, 1922 in Logan County, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Lula Perry Ramsey. Hazel graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1940. She entered nurses training in 1942 at Laird Memorial Hospital in Montgomery and graduated in 1945 as an RN. She married John Lawrence Hannigan on September 4, 1945 and lived in Montgomery where her two children were born. Hazel was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and the Laird Memorial Nurses’ Alumni. She moved to Gatewood in 1962 and worked 13 years at Oak Hill Hospital (PMC) before retiring to live in Oak Hill. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John Lawrence Hannigan in January 1972; her sister, Kathleen Taylor Withrow; two brothers, George Ramsey and William Ramsey; and great granddaughter, Isabella “Izzy” McManaway. Left to cherish many wonderful memories is her daughter, Linda K. (Dale) Clonch of Fayetteville; son, John Wayne (Nancy) Hannigan of Oak Hill; steps-son, David L. Hannigan and family of Fostoria, Ohio; four grandchildren: Amy Clonch (Will) Thornton, Jenny Clonch (Corey) McManaway, Jody Hannigan, and Jonathan Hannigan; seven great-grandchildren: Payton Hannigan, Ben Thornton, Josie Thornton, Zavery McManaway, Zoe McManaway, Kyle McManaway, and Kezlin McManaway. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM, on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, with Pastor Mark Wood officiating. Burial will follow in Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville. The family will receive friends one hour before the funeral on Thursday at the funeral home.
