

Donald W. "Don" Little, age 94, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 26, 2022. Don was born at the Little Hotel & Livery Services in Cumberland, Indiana on April 1, 1928 to Mabel K. and William I. Little. At the age of 10 he was nominated for the Carnagie Hall Medal of Valor for saving his 2 and 1/2 year old brother, Jack, from an oncoming train when Jack's foot got caught in the tracks.
Don and his family moved to Virginia before WWII and he and his dad found employment at the Portsmouth Naval Base as painters. Don soon became an apprentice electrician and was working on such famous Carriers as the U.S.S. Enterprise, as well as the U.S.S. Hornet and the U.S.S. Indiana.
When the family returned to Indiana, the Little & Sons Co. Paint Contractors was formed and that partnership lasted until William's death in 1958. Don had a a natural talent for carpentry and he helped design and build some of the first campers manufactured in Indiana. Later he became employed by an electronics firm where his job was installing sound systems in the larger Indiana Malls, as well as hospitals and colleges throughout the state of Ohio. After 10 years of architectural carpentry, Don retired at the age of 65 from American Precast.
Don's great love was sports and he excelled in most of them. He loved to bowl and was on 3 leagues a week for over 10 years. He was at home in the outdoors either bear hunting in Canada or tracking deer in Colorado. He was an avid camper but enjoyed water skiing and fishing as well.
He held memberships in the S.A.L., B.O.M., and the National Rifle Association.
Don had a blind date in 1948 to a girl named Janet Bailey and they married in 1949.
Survivors include his spouse of 72 years, Janet; 2 daughters, Cheryl & Vicki; as well as 2 grandsons, David & Daniel and their families.
Visitation will be Friday, May 6, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Little & Sons Funeral Home, 1301 Main St, Beech Grove, Indiana 46107. His Funeral Service will be Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 1:00 PM at the funeral home with burial to follow in Washington Park East Cemetery, Indianapolis, Indiana.
